12 weeks of Run the Studio · Video: What a Camera Actually Does · The Exposure Triangle · Glass (Lenses) · Composition & Movement · Light …
The weeks are the course’s own, read from the lab; the catalog pads the last weeks with the capstone and the floor so the course fills a whole term.

The squares are a picture of a course — how much of each core subject its own rooms carry, read from the rooms’ text — never a score of a student. Every course in a lab is graded to the core across the board; the squares say which columns it feeds most.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO
- Everybody has a camera
- The foundation of the whole course
- The single biggest look decision you make isn’t the camera — it’s the lens
- A shot isn’t just what’s in frame — it’s where you PUT it, and whether the camera moves for a reason

WK 1What a Camera Actually DoesTHE CRAFT · THE CAMERA, THE LIGHT, THE CUT
Everybody has a camera. Almost nobody knows what it’s DOING. A camera is three dials and a piece of glass — light comes in, gets measured, and lands on a sensor.
WK 2The Exposure Triangle
The foundation of the whole course. Aperture, shutter, and ISO are three dials that each control light AND a piece of the look — and they’re a triangle: move one, you must move another.
WK 3Glass (Lenses)
The single biggest look decision you make isn’t the camera — it’s the lens. Focal length isn’t just “zoom”; it changes a face, bends space, and sets the whole emotion of a shot.
WK 4Composition & Movement
A shot isn’t just what’s in frame — it’s where you PUT it, and whether the camera moves for a reason. Framing directs the eye, coverage lets a scene cut together, and the 180° line is the invisible rule that keeps an…
WK 5Light
Light is the thing that separates amateur from pro — more than any camera. It’s not “make it brighter,” it’s deciding WHERE the shadows fall.
WK 6Audio (Audio-First)
The most important week in the course — and the one nobody teaches. People will forgive a rough picture. They will NOT watch something they can’t hear.
WK 7The Full Gear Landscape
Every tier of gear that exists, what it actually buys you, and — the real skill — how to build the RIGHT kit for a job and a budget. Gear doesn’t make you good; knowing what each thing does, and what you can skip, does.
WK 8Streaming & Connectivity
The huge, unglamorous, nobody-teaches-it skill: getting a live signal from a camera all the way to a platform — and fixing it when it breaks.
WK 9Editing
Editing is the second half of directing — the movie is really MADE in the edit. The same footage can be a masterpiece or a mess depending on where you cut, how you pace it, and how you use sound.
THE PROJECT · WHAT THE QUARTER IS FOR
The assignments · weeks 1–9
The question. What does The Craft ask you to be able to do by week 9?
The make. Every week's assignment and the quiz as practice: What a Camera Actually Does · The Exposure Triangle · Glass (Lenses) · Composition & Movement …
The evidence. Handed in through The Craft inside Run the Studio · Video, kept in My Work; the Report reads it from there.
Quarter 2 · Color → The capstone, then the floor
WEEKS 10–18THE WEEKS · THE ROOMS EACH ONE OPENS
WK 10ColorTHE CRAFT · THE CAMERA, THE LIGHT, THE CUT
The finishing look — where footage becomes an image with a feeling. There are two jobs people confuse: fixing the color so it’s right, and grading it so it FEELS a certain way.
WK 11The Genres
Everything you’ve learned bends differently depending on WHAT you’re making. A wedding, a commercial, a documentary, and a TikTok share the same tools but obey opposite rules.
WK 12The Business
Talent gets you the first job; knowing the business keeps you working. This is how you price your work without starving, why you license usage instead of selling files, and the real career floor — the paid, hireable…
WK 13–18The capstone, then the floor
The capstone the track ends in, then the floor: the work is done in the room, logged in the room, kept in My Work.

A course is a quarter, a semester or a year — nine, eighteen or thirty-six weeks — a project a quarter. Offered as the year, a semester or a quarter, it is the same course seen through a window. A lab is a family: its year, each of its tracks as a course, and its rooms. The evidence is what a student hands in through the room; the Report reads it from there. Nothing in the catalog is a grade.
