World History & Geography 10 · The Record and the Atlases
The world through its record and its maps: sugar from Barbados to Hawaii and the people it moved; the spice routes, the stone routes, the seed routes, the roads music travelled — the atlases inside the labs read as history and geography; then the twentieth century on the ground, the Somme, Omaha Beach and Midway walked in 3D; and the Seminar, where the arguments of now are held to the record.
THE MIX · HOW MUCH OF EACH CORE SUBJECT THIS COURSE CARRIES · IN ORDER
HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY & HUMANITIESREADING & WRITINGMATHART & DESIGN
The squares are a picture of a course — how much of each core subject its own rooms carry, read from the rooms’ text — never a score of a student. Every course in a lab is graded to the core across the board; the squares say which columns it feeds most.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO
- Trace a commodity, a people or an idea across a map and a century from primary sources
- Read the geography inside a trade — spice, stone, seed, sound — and explain what moved and why
- Walk three twentieth-century battlefields in 3D and argue what the ground and the machine decided
- Hold a position in a seminar with the record open, and write it

Q4 The Seminar · the arguments of now, held to the record — The position paper and the game
Semester 1
WEEKS 1–18 · QUARTERS 1 AND 2Sugar · the Atlantic world
WEEKS 1–9THE WEEKS · THE ROOMS EACH ONE OPENS
WK 1–4Barbados, 1657 · the hold, 1789
Ligon watches the mill; Equiano remembers the hold; the map traced.
WK 5–7Parliament, the pamphlet, the Queen
The Sugar Act; Fox’s pamphlet; Liliʻuokalani yields under protest, 1893; the line in order.
WK 8–9The ledger
Sugar as a number: tonnes, ships, people.
THE PROJECT · WHAT THE QUARTER IS FOR
THE CASE · sugar
The question. What did sugar cost, and who paid — from a Barbados mill to a Hawaiian throne, according to whom?
The make. A written case across five sources and two centuries, cited by line, with the opposing reading answered
The evidence. THE CASE, handed in through The Record

The atlases · geography inside the trades
WEEKS 10–18THE WEEKS · THE ROOMS EACH ONE OPENS
WK 10–12The Spice Atlas
Where every spice grows and the routes that carried it — the Kitchen’s atlas read as history.
WK 13–15The Stone Atlas and the Origin Map
Where on Earth stones come from; where the seeds began — the Stone Room’s atlas, The Ground’s origin map.
WK 16–18The roads music travelled
THE SOUND’s map and atlas; the family tree from work songs to the radio.
THE PROJECT · WHAT THE QUARTER IS FOR
One thing, across the world
The question. Pick one — a spice, a stone, a seed, a sound. Where did it start, what carried it, who paid, and what is it now?
The make. An atlas essay with a hand-drawn route map, three dated waypoints with sources, and the trade that moved it
The evidence. The essay and the map, handed in through the Record’s make and kept in My Work

Semester 2
WEEKS 19–36 · QUARTERS 3 AND 4The Field · the twentieth century on the ground
WEEKS 19–27 · IN THIS OFFERINGTHE WEEKS · THE ROOMS EACH ONE OPENS
WK 19–21The Somme, 1916
The chalk uplands walked in 3D; the wire, the stairs, the road that divides the day.
WK 22–24Omaha Beach, 1944
The beach, the bluffs, the draws; what the ground cost.
WK 25–27Midway, 1942
A battle of distances: the carriers, the search, the five minutes.
THE PROJECT · WHAT THE QUARTER IS FOR
The Field · three cases
The question. Across three fields: did the ground decide, or the machine — and where does the record disagree with the legend?
The make. Three presented cases from the Field, each with its levers named and its sources cited, and one comparison across the century
The evidence. The cases, presented and handed in through The Field

WEEKS 28–36 · IN THIS OFFERINGTHE WEEKS · THE ROOMS EACH ONE OPENS
WK 28–29Sparks
Framing a question with two honest sides.
WK 30–34The Seminar
What is work for; the machine came before; who owns what you make; a trillion dollars according to whom — four seminars, a position each, the split counted.
WK 35–36The Maker
A game made from a source, on the Scramble’s engine, published for the room.
THE PROJECT · WHAT THE QUARTER IS FOR
The position paper and the game
The question. Take one argument of now — automation, ownership, a number everyone repeats — and hold it to the record. Then build the game that makes someone else do the same.
The make. A position paper with the counter-position stated fairly and the record cited, and a published Record game from a source
The evidence. The paper, handed in through the Seminar; the game, published through The Maker

A course is a quarter, a semester or a year — nine, eighteen or thirty-six weeks — a project a quarter. Offered as the year, a semester or a quarter, it is the same course seen through a window. A lab is a family: its year, each of its tracks as a course, and its rooms. The evidence is what a student hands in through the room; the Report reads it from there. Nothing in the catalog is a grade.
