Sports Business & Management

The Front Office · the business of sports · in Train the Body · Fitness & NIL

7 weeks of Train the Body · Fitness & NIL: The Business of Sports · Economics & Finance — The Cap Room · Marketing & Media · Sport Analytics · Legal, Ethical & Social …

The weeks are the course’s own, read from the lab; the catalog pads the last weeks with the capstone and the floor so the course fills a whole term.

The squares are a picture of a course — how much of each core subject its own rooms carry, read from the rooms’ text — never a score of a student. Every course in a lab is graded to the core across the board; the squares say which columns it feeds most.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO
  • Before you can work in sports, you have to see where the money actually is — and it’s almost never where fans think.
  • A salary cap is a hard math problem you solve with a full roster on the line

WK 1
The Business of SportsTHE FRONT OFFICE · THE BUSINESS OF SPORTS
Before you can work in sports, you have to see where the money actually is — and it’s almost never where fans think.
WK 2
Economics & Finance — The Cap Room
A salary cap is a hard math problem you solve with a full roster on the line. This is where you stop being a fan and start thinking like a GM — the number does the teaching.
WK 3
Marketing & Media
The hardest sell in sports is a team that loses — and the people who can do it are worth a fortune. Marketing is why a nobody becomes a brand.
WK 4
Sport Analytics
Moneyball didn’t stay in baseball — every front office runs on data now. But the number and the eye test fight, and knowing when to trust which is the whole job.
WK 5
Legal, Ethical & Social
Contracts, agents, NIL, unions, concussions — and the honest questions about who owns the game vs. who plays it. This is the module that protects you and tells you the truth.
WK 6
Facility & Operations
Somebody has to run the building — staff it, feed it, secure it, and hit the number. Game-day ops is a live P&L, and it’s one of the most hireable jobs in sports.
WK 7
The Global Game
The rest of the world runs sports completely differently — and understanding why teaches you more about business models than any single league can.
WK 8–9
The floor
The floor: the work is done in the room, logged in the room, kept in My Work.
THE PROJECT · WHAT THE QUARTER IS FOR
The assignments · weeks 1–9
The question. What does The Front Office ask you to be able to do by week 7?
The make. Every week's assignment and the quiz as practice: The Business of Sports · Economics & Finance — The Cap Room · Marketing & Media · Sport Analytics …
The evidence. Handed in through The Front Office inside Train the Body · Fitness & NIL, kept in My Work; the Report reads it from there.

A course is a quarter, a semester or a year — nine, eighteen or thirty-six weeks — a project a quarter. Offered as the year, a semester or a quarter, it is the same course seen through a window. A lab is a family: its year, each of its tracks as a course, and its rooms. The evidence is what a student hands in through the room; the Report reads it from there. Nothing in the catalog is a grade.
